A Long Drive

Evangeline Johnson March 14, 2025
I wrote this from a character sheet written by somebody else as a short writing exercise in the lit mag writer's workshop. The genre was a little unfamiliar to me so pushing myself to embrace it was a valuable challenge!

I am not “Black”.

Taliyah Spann March 14, 2025
This poem was written in inspiration for Black History Month. It is my personal thoughts and feelings on stereotypes I have experienced from people of color and others that has weighed heavily on my mind.

Life’s Rhythm Through the Trails of Portland and Mount Hood

Queenie Nguyen March 14, 2025
Alongside the Intro to Journalism class, I spent several weeks in workshops with Zoe Carpenter, learning how to bring places to life through storytelling. My writing brings this story to life by weaving sensory details and personal memories---my goal was to allow the readers to feel emerged in the story as I worked to create a narrative that captures both the wild Cascades, and the vibrancy of the city.

The Maker

Casey Coleman, Lead Editor March 14, 2025
The message of this story is that if the oppressed ban together, they can over throw an oppressor. Additionally, it addresses worries of a dystopia brought on by automation.

The Dragon of Duskhollow Wood

Mabel Seyler March 14, 2025
A few weeks ago I was thinking, "What would realistically happen if a dragon showed up near an ordinary medieval town?" This is the result.

Of Wildflowers on Plastic

Luke Coleman March 14, 2025
This poem was made to bring awareness to the environment and climate change. It contrasts human environments and natural environments and comments on what could happen if we continue to do nothing. I wanted to explore America in a way that shows its beauty, both artificial and natural.

The Ghost of a Song

Mabel Seyler December 15, 2024
I wrote this during theater class last year. It started out with me thinking about how everyone has a DJ in their heads who plays music only they can hear...

Just a Quick Errand

Ekaterina ‘Katie’ Wolff December 15, 2024
Set in a sci-fi world created by my boyfriend this work follows a group of oddball outcast mercs. My favorite tropes have always been some weirdos on a ship go on adventures, inspired greatly by works such as cowboy bebop and maybe a little bladerunner.

System Failure, Chapter I

Abilene Chace December 15, 2024
This is the first chapter of the novel I have been trying to write since I was in fourth grade. This iteration began as an assignment for my Creative Writing class, which broke through my writer’s block and unlocked my ability to create conflict for a story that had been lacking it.

A Day In The Life

Santana Apodaca December 15, 2024
This essay describes my life during Summer 2024 and how the little moments mean so much to me. There were a lot of moments big and small that made up my summer. I wanted to appreciate the smaller moments by writing this essay on a moment I shared with my mom during a baseball game I played. The small moments matter!
